Growing Tobacco At Home To Avoid Taxes

The NY Times has an article about a retired police officer named Audrey Silk who’s taken to growing and processing her own cigarettes in her Brooklyn home, to avoid tobacco taxes:

“It’ll make the antismokers apoplectic,” said Ms. Silk. “They’re using the power of taxation to coerce behavior. That’s not what taxation is supposed to be for.”
