Florida’s Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is cutting off coverage for external structures on an insured’s property, including screened porches, carports, poolhouses, patios, tiki huts and gazebos, according to a report in Insurance Journal.
Citing a message from Citizens to its agents, IJ also reported the state-run property insurer will cap coverage for cosmetic damages to floors that cover less than 5% of property’s total square footage at $10,000. The changes would take effect Jan. 1.
The insurer also is considering suspending coverage for builder’s risk and a variety of liability coverages, IJ reported.
