From 1990 to 2008, there were 67 new or renovated public sports facilities built in the United States, with public subsidies that ranged from $249 million to $280 million. In this week’s edition of the FIRE Podcast, we talk with Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, about a new paper he authored looking at the dismal track record of publicly financed of sports stadiums, and why encouraging more fan-owned teams could be part of the solution.
